Ocheyedan woman killed in crash near Lake Park
A two-vehicle crash just west of the Lake Park corner on Highway 9 has claimed the life of an Ocheyedan woman. At approximately 6:50 a.m. Monday (Dec. 29), a 2008 Dodge Ram truck driven by 26 year-old Sam Kweme from Houston, TX, was westbound on Highway 9. Kweme lost control of his truck and entered the east-bound lane, colliding with a 2005 Chevy Cobalt driven by 27 year-old Tanya Nagel from Ocheyedan. Both Kweme and Nagel had to be extricated from their vehicles.
Kweme was transported to Lakes Regional Healthcare with serious injuries. Nagel was pronounced dead at the scene. The mishap remains under investigation.
The Dickinson County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Lake Park Fire Department, Lake Park Ambulance, Spirit Lake Ambulance, Spirit Lake Fire Department, Spirit Lake Police Department, Iowa State Patrol and Dickinson County Emergency Management.
