Electric Department

The Lake Park Municipal Utilities (LPMU) provides electricity for the residents of the City of Lake Park. LPMU is a member of Missouri River Energy Services (MRES), a joint-action agency with 55 other member communities in Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota and North Dakota.

Members of MRES are municipalities who own and operate electric distribution systems. All members of MRES, including LPMU, purchase hydroelectricity produced at federally owned facilities located along the Missouri River.

Electric rates in most MRES communities rank among the lowest in the region and in the nation.

RiverWinds

Electricity generated by the blowing wind is now available from Lake Park Municipal Utilities through a program called RiverWinds. RiverWinds is a voluntary program that allows residents and businesses of Lake Park to purchase wind energy produced at wind generators near Worthington, MN.

Wind energy uses a renewable and inexhaustible fuel source, the wind, to produce electricity. Wind energy is non-polluting, saves our natural resources, and reduces our dependence on fossil fuels and foreign fuel sources. Wind turbines constructed in our region also help stimulate our rural economy. That's good for everyone!

You can sign up to purchase part of the electricity you use from RiverWinds. The wind energy is sold in blocks of 100 kilowatt-hours (kWhs). The monthly cost per 100 KWH block is $1.50 over the normal cost of your electricity. You may buy as many blocks of wind energy as you desire. You will be billed for the wind energy as a separate line item on your regular monthly utility bill.

Lake Park Municipal Utilities and our energy partner, Missouri River Energy Services, bring this exciting RiverWinds program to you. To see more details about the RiverWinds program, click on www.riverwinds.biz. To purchase wind energy from RiverWinds, please call Lake Park Municipal Utilities at 712-832-3667 or e-mail LPMU.
